Nothing freshens a home up for springtime like a lovely bouquet of tulips.

Today I am sharing a few tips to arrange your tulips and keep their colorful buds happy longer while they adorn your home.

1. Give the vase you choose a good wash and dry.

2. Fill the vase less than half full with fresh room temperature water. Tulips last longer in shallow water.

3. Tulips need nourishment. Add a cut flower food packet to the water or make your own by mixing 1 teaspoon of sugar and two drops liquid bleach per gallon of fresh water.

4. Carefully rinse each tulip stem with cool water to remove any dirt that may be trapped in the leaves.

5. To size the tulips for the vase, hold each stem next to your vase to gauge how much you’ll need to trim. (I like to leave six to eight inches above the vase.) Using sharp scissors, cut stems at a 45-degree angle all the same lengthBe sure to cut away the white stem tissue for better absorption. Remove any leaves that will fall under the water line to prevent rotting.

Now for the best part!

You don’t have to arrange tulips!

6. Stand the trimmed tulips up holding them in a bunch and slide them directly into the vase.

That is it! No fussing with heights and floral tape.

I personally think part of the beauty of tulips is how they fall and drape the vase. Day three is as lovely as day one.

Chaotic beauty.

8.  Insert a pin through the stem just below the head and pull it out clean. The hole will let air escape to expedite the water flow.

9. Place tulips in a cool area in your home.

10. Replace the water and re-nourish tulips daily.
