Place the warm gingerbread cheesecakes in jars back onto the baking sheet and refrigerate for two hours or until completely set. Screw on the lids until time to garnish and serve.
  • GARNISH
  • Garnish the Gingerbread Cheesecakes in Jars with whipped cream, a cinnamon stick, and a gingerbread cookie.

How to Make Fabric Gift Twine

My husband and I were married in Charleston, SC. We enjoyed a wonderful reception and stay at lovely The Charleston Place Hotel, located just at the end of the famous Charleston City Market in the heart of downtown. The market is also famous for beautiful handmade sweetgrass baskets. Watching ladies sit and make them onsite, I became interested in this art and stumbled onto a video twisting tree bark into rope. Today I am sharing how I use the same method using fabric scraps.

  • FRIEND FRIENDLY – This is a great craft to do while sitting around with wine and a movie or series.

Supplies

  • 1 inch fabric strips

  • spools (optional) 1 | 2 | 3

Note: If you don’t have scrap fabric for your twine, purchase quilt fat quarters in a your favorite colors and cut into 1 inch strips. You can find them at craft and fabric stores.

Instructions

Start Fabric Gift Twine

Tie 2 strips of fabric together using a double knot. PULL IT TIGHT!

The Twine Twist

Hold the tied strips with one hand tightly between the thumb and the forefinger over the tied knot.

Use the other hand pick up the top fabric strand. Wrap the strip of fabric away from you around your middle or forefinger two times.

Grip the twist tightly.

Pull the twisted fabric toward you and pull down.

Move the thumb and forefinger away from knot to hold the twist. Bring the bottom piece of fabric to the top. Repeat the process until one or both of the fabric twist strip/s only has two inches left.

Note: The tighter you twist the stronger the twine will be. I like using different amounts of pressure on the twist to create more character in the twine.

Joining Strands

When one or both of the fabric strips has only two inches of untwisted fabric left, fold in a new piece/s and continue twisting. Repeat to desired length. When you are finished, simply tie a loose knot at the end.

Option: If you want a more rustic look; tie on the pieces versus folding them in. This adds little knot tails along the twine.

Tidy Up

Snip any unwanted freys and tidy up the knot-tails if you tied on.

Finish

When you reach the desired length, tie the two ends together and clip off the ends.

How To Store Fabric Gift Twine

  1. Wrap your twine around large spools and use them for decor on a bookshelf or kitchen window.
  2. Roll the twine into a ball and lay it in a bowl in your kitchen. I keep a small ball in my fruit bowl. It adds a little color and is handy for sharing goodies.

How To Make Vintage Gumdrop Trees

The History of The Gum Drop

Gumdrops first appeared in the 19th century as early as 1801 and referred to as small sweets. In 1859 the name gumdrop was put into print in an advertisement in the Illinois State Chronicles for a candy shop owned by George Julier. They have stood the test of time and are still today a popular treat during the holidays on gingerbread houses.

How Do Gumdrops Taste?

Each gumdrop color has a different flavor and sometimes two. Purple gumdrops are usually grape or peppermint, while white could be licorice or clove. Black are always licorice and orange is sometimes anise or orange. Yellow is lemon or allspice and green is mint or apple.

What are Gumdrops Made of?

Gumdrops are brightly colored gummy candy made from gelatin or pectin and dusted with a light coating of sugar.

How To Decorate with Gumdrop Trees

Gumdrop trees add charm to your holiday decor. Below are five places to use them in your home.

  1. Fireplace Hearth
  2. Buffet
  3. Centerpiece
  4. Window Seal
  5. Bedroom Dresser

Instructions

Break toothpicks into halves.

Starting at the point of the styrofoam tree working around the tree, insert a toothpick, add a drop of hot glue at the base of the toothpick, slide on a gumdrop gently pressing into the glue.

Repeat working to the bottom of the tree.

Have Fun!

How Do You Store Vintage Gumdrop Trees For Next year?

I have great news! You can keep gumdrop trees for at least 12 years. I am on twelve and counting. Let me add that we have had 12 military moves and they have been moved six times now and endured different temperatures crossing the country.

  1. Wrap the trees in three layers of acid free white tissue paper.
  2. Wrap them in a double layer of bubble wrap and secure with a piece of masking tape.
  3. Store them in a plastic container with an airtight lid.

How To Make The Best Homemade Eggnog

From my home to yours, I am sharing my family’s favorite holiday treat. Enjoyed by a warm fire in our riverhouse cabin on the Flint River (South Georgia), this holiday cocktail is so delicious and creamy we enjoyed it with a silver spoon.

What Is Eggnog And What is in it?

Eggnog is a traditional holiday drink dating back hundreds of years. It was known as milk punch. Served chilled, the first eggnog recipes were made with a mixture of beaten egg yolks, cream, spices, and straight bourbon, brandy or rum.

What Does Eggnog Taste Like?

Eggnog is a very sweet, lightly spiced, and creamy drink with almost a custard consistency.

Do You Cook The Eggs in Eggnog and Are they Safe To Eat?

You don’t cook the eggs in this recipe. FRESH eggs are necessary. (You can check them by placing them in a bowl of cold water. If they float they are bad.) The alcohol also aides in the removal of any bacteria.

What is the Best Alcohol For Homemade Eggnog?

THIS IS GREAT FROZEN! Top it with crushed peppermint! Voilà a second touch of holiday magic! PS IT is so delicious and creamy you can eat it with a spoon.

-gwyn

Occasions To Serve Eggnog

Eggnog is typically made with rum, brandy or bourbon, and Brown likes to start with a combination of dark rum and cognac. But there’s no need to go premium; he recommends using an affordable, high-proof VS cognac. The higher alcohol level will cut through the sweetness of the rest of the ingredients.

How To Make The Best Homemade Eggnog

Ingredients

  • 12 large fresh eggs
  • 1 quart whipping cream
  • 1 box 10x powdered sugar
  • 1 cup bourbon (I prefer Markers Mark. Avoid using blended whiskey. Bourbon is a straight whiskey.)

Garnishes

Instructions

Wash bowls, mixer attachments, and pitcher thoroughly with hot water.

In two separate mixing bowls, separate the egg yolks from the egg whites. In a third mixing bowl, add the cold whipping cream.

With a hand mixer on medium speed, mix the egg yolks until they turn a lovely custard yellow. Slowly beat in the bourbon until just combined. Set aside.

Rinse the mixer attachments. Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Slowly mix in the powdered sugar until it is well blended. Set aside.

Again, rinse the mixer attachments. On high-speed, mix the whipping cream until stiff peaks are formed. Gently fold the egg white mixture into the whipped cream mixture. Then, gently fold in the beaten egg yolks until the color is solid.

Pour into a punch bowl or a pitcher. Serve with a silver spoon.

Garnish with peppermint sticks, crushed peppermint, a cinnamon stick, powdered cinnamon, a sprinkle of nutmeg, or Sparkling Charm Sugared Cranberries.

Notes

  1. Eggnog can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days in an airtight container. Simply give it a stir before serving.
  2. Leftovers can be frozen and eaten as ice cream.
  3. FRESH EGGS NECESSARY! To make sure your eggs are fresh, place an egg in in cold water. If it floats or stands it is not fresh. The egg should lay sideways.

How about a “best ever” sugar cookie cutouts recipe? I have it for you!

The perfect sugar cookies for decorating with royal icing or sanding sugar!

The perfect sugar cookies for ice cream sandwiches!

The perfect sugar cookies to make ahead for parties.

Did I mention they get better on the 2nd and 3rd day in a sealed container? They do!

Grab your aprons! I am sharing my personal spin on a classic sugar cookie cutout recipe with you adding a touch of cardamom, a bit of orange juice, and a sprinkle orange zest to the dough!

The Best Sugar Cookie Cutouts Recipe

Ingredients

Yield: Makes 1 dozen 4″ cookies

  • 2 cups cake flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cardamom
  • 1 sticks unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, beaten at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons fresh squeezed orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest

Directions

Sugar Cookie Cutout Dough

1. Sift flour, baking powder, cardamom, and salt into a medium mixing bowl.

You can use a whisk to mix if you don’t have a sifter.

2. On high speed in a large mixing bowl, mix the room temperature butter and sugar until fluffy and light in color. This step takes 5 minutes. Beat in the room temperature beaten egg, vanilla, orange juice, and orange zest. Mix until well combined.

3. Turn the mixer to low and add in the flour in two batches until just combined. Stop when just combined! Over mixing the dough = One ?? ? tough cookie.

4. Divide the sugar cookie cut-out dough between two pieces of plastic wrap, shape into disks, wrap and refrigerate for at least one hour until firm or overnight.

The Best Sugar Cookie Cutouts Recipe

Cutting Out The Cookies

1. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Working with one disk of dough at a time, roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thick on a floured surface dusting with flour as needed. Cut out shapes with cookie cutters. Place them on a/the prepared baking sheet/s 2 inches apart. If the dough becomes soft, refrigerate again until firm. Gather the scraps, wrap and refrigerate until firm, and cut out more cookies.

2. Refrigerate the cookie cutouts for 30 minutes until firm.

The Best Sugar Cookies Cutouts Recipe

Sparkle Tip:

I use measuring strips for the perfect height and with a stainless steel rolling pin. I have not tried this dandy looking  thing, but it looks easy to use.

Baking

1. Position oven racks in the lower thirds of the oven and preheat to 350° F.

2. Remove the chilled cookies from the refrigerator and bake switching the pans 1/2 way through for 12 to 14 minutes. The Cut-Out Sugar Cookies are done when they are slightly puffed and a light golden in color. Remove the cookies from the oven and leave them on the cookies sheets for 5 minutes to cool. Move the still warm cookies to a cookie rack to cool completely before icing them.

All ovens are different in baking times. Keep an eye on your sugar cookies! They are ready to come out of the oven when they are just puffed and are on the verge of browning on the bottoms. This ensures a soft cookie and is the secret to keeping them delicious in a container for a few days.

    • 2 cups pecans, toasted with option to chop

    Ingredients

Just like my Autumn Fresh Table Runner DIY, tablescape decor doesn’t have to be costly and labor intensive. It can be as easy as a forage walk outside and a roll of pretty ribbon.

Scroll on down and let’s chat about ideas and options for a beautiful evergreen and velvet ribbon tablescape.

How To Style A Holiday Table: Evergreen Branches & Velvet Ribbon

A Few Sparkle Notes Before You start:

    1. Eucalyptus is considered greenery. It can be found in most grocery stores year round. I pick it up at Trader Joe’s for 3.99 a bunch. I purchased everything fresh in this DIY at Trader Joe’s for less than $15.00. Also note, check the ends of the registers at Trader Joe’s before you pick your flowers. They most everyday have buckets of flowers and greenery that are free. They give one bunch to each guest at checkout.
    2. Eucalyptus smells wonderful and is perfect for drying and adding to dried arrangements. It also a great addition to wreaths and oh so pretty tucked in a napkin ring for a little something special in a place setting.
    3. Please read this DIY through to the end before you start.
    4. There are so many plates to choose from for seasonal table. I am a fan of Home Goods for inexpensive seasonal place setting pieces.

    3. Place the small filled vases and jars along the ribbon.
